How To Find Freelance Writing Jobs On The Web: Starting Your Writing Career

It is only a few years since freelance writing was considered a “joke career.” Something for the lazy and the work shy. However, ever since the global financial crisis and the explosion of the internet things have rapidly changed and now not only is it perfectly acceptable to pursue this as a career but millions of people worldwide are jumping on board.

So, with competition so fierce is there even any part starting?

Yes! With the increase in demand has come an increase in demand as more and more people outsource their requirements. So, just how do you find writing jobs on the web? Here is my quick guide.

Register with the reputable sites

I am not going to name them here in this blog post. However, if you are totally new to this and have no idea where to start then a simple Google search will throw up links to the major players. I would suggest that you register with these initially. The thing with these sites is that they are like marmite. You either love them or hate them. Most people end up finding one that they are most comfortable with and then stick with it.

Set up strong profiles

For some strange reason, many people feel as though it is okay to simply bypass this key stage. Just why they would do that, I do not know. As setting up a strong profile, is the best way of getting work. It is your gateway. Your chance to showcase your talent, your skills and your experience. It also demonstrates the fact that you take yourself and your future writing career seriously.

Take a few select tests

This is what I mean about marmite. Some of the big sites will give you the option to take tests. Some will pretty much compel you too. The problem that I have, is the ones that charge you for taking the tests. Not because I object to paying to advance myself; far from it. I am just not 100% convinced that they make too much of a difference. Yes, it makes sense to demonstrate your skills in English Language and occasionally math, but beyond that? I will let you decide for yourself.

Embrace LinkedIn

Social media is a great way of getting the word out there that you are in the market for work. LinkedIn is particularly useful as it is aimed at the professional community.
